Jo Yuri Refutes 4.2 Billion “Squid Game” Appearance Fee Rumor: “It’s Much Less”

Singer and actress Jo Yuri has personally responded to the rumors surrounding her appearance fee for Netflix’s mega-hit Squid Game.
On the July 12 episode of MBC’s “The Manager” (originally “전지적 참견 시점”, also known as “Point of Omniscient Interfere”), Jo Yuri opened up about her experience filming Seasons 2 and 3 of “Squid Game”, which continues to enjoy massive global success.
Then, when asked by host Jun Hyun-moo about the global reaction, she shared how her popularity skyrocketed after appearing in the series, saying, “My Instagram follower count jumped dramatically. Before ‘Squid Game,’ I had about 1.6 million followers, and now it’s around 7 million. I used to get mostly Korean comments, but now they’re from all over the world.”

The conversation then shifted to rumors about her paycheck. In particular, as Jun Hyun-moo mentioned that people were saying her appearance fee was massive, Jo Yuri quickly clarified, “There was an article saying I received 4.2 billion won (about 3 million USD). Just for my appearance fee. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It’s way, way less”.
Meanwhile, Jo Yuri assumed the role of Jo Yu-ri, who participated in the cruel Squid Game while pregnant. Her straightforward denial caught viewers’ attention, as she candidly dismissed the inflated salary speculation.
